It’s the big one!
Okay, so I’ve been stalling and stalling on making any kind of plans for my birthday, and getting excited about planning any kind of event for this year’s has been particularly hard. But, this is one of those “end in a zero” years…and while sometimes when I think about it I feel like this
…I just can’t possibly do nothing to mark the day.
So I’ve been mulling all kinds of ideas, from the sort-of-standard “night in the pub” to a more extravagant “book somewhere special for a few select friends” to “do something really extraordinary I’ve never done before.”
Ideas of the extraordinary kind kept coming up as
- kind of expensive (skydiving, a day trip somewhere)
- requiring more planning than I’d done (treasure hunt pubcrawl, arrange a screening of the Blues Brothers), and
- possibly solo (not many would be able to go climb Kilimanjaro or spend a week…well, anywhere)
I do reserve the right to arrange any of those activities at another time just for the sake of it, but I’ve committed to none of them. In fact, I’ve committed to almost nothing at all, until now.
So get on with it, what’s the plan?
In the end I’ve gone for a night out at what I hope is more interesting than the standard pub: the Phoenix Artist’s Club, on Charing Cross road. Now, as it turns out, other people are better more enthusiastic about planning than I, and both the weekend before and the weekend after are largely spoken for. So, I’m going for the actual day. That makes it a school night and perhaps a bit less of “just a pissup,” but maybe not.
Here’s the deal though – entrance to the Phoenix is members-only after 8pm. I’m not a member but I’ve got a reservation for some space (not the whole place) and membership status of guests is not a problem, but I need to provide a guest list, so if you can and will come for a little bit, please let me know so you can actually get in.
So:
What: My xtieth Birthday
When: Tuesday, September 14th, 6pm until I’m done
Where: Phoenix Artist’s Club, WC2H 0JP (gmap) – underneath the Phoenix Theatre (Blood Brothers) on Charing Cross road.
